Announcing our new subscription models for adding storage and bandwidth to your plans.

Updated over a week ago

On Aug 22nd, 2023 we rolled out a new way for adding storage and bandwidth to your plan.

Long story short, we've made several infrastructure enhancements that resulted in less costs for us. That allows us to pass the savings onto you, our amazing customers. It will now be less expensive for your to add more bandwidth and/or storage to your plan.

Additional bandwidth (beyond what is included in your plan) will now be $0.05 per GB and you are charged only for what you use. Additional storage will now be $0.03 per GB and will be added in 100 GB increments.

And we also simplified the way the whole thing works so it'll make a lot more sense to everyone.

Here we'll detail the changes with examples so you fully understand.

Bandwidth Changes

Previously we offered add-ons for bandwidth in increments of 200 GB, 1 TB, 5TB, and up. This was billed at $0.08 per GB. For example, if you added 400 GB of bandwidth to your plan, then you were adding $32/month to your monthly invoices. You would pay $32/month whether you used any of the 400 GB or not.

Additionally, if you went over your monthly bandwidth limit, whether it was the base limit or an increased limit, you would be billed at our flex rate of $0.15 per GB.

Starting from Aug 22nd, anyone with a monthly bandwidth add-on plan will have those add-on plans cancelled. So if you are on a Polaris plan and also had a 400 GB bandwidth add-on, that add-on is cancelled and you will not be billed again for it.

You monthly rebill amount will be for your base Polaris subscription ONLY. If and only if you go over your plan's bandwidth limit, we will bill you at our new flex rate of $0.05 per GB for any amount you go over.

Let me reiterate that once more...we've removed and cancelled all bandwidth add-on monthly plans and our new, lower price for flex bandwidth is $0.05 per GB.

Example with real numbers

Old way - A Polaris customer pays $49/month, which includes 600 GB per month.

They add 400 GB of bandwidth per month at $0.08/GB, bringing their monthly limit up to 1000 GB.

They are billed $81/month ($49 for the base plan and $32 for the add-on bandwidth).

In month 1 they use 800 GB total (out of 1000 limit). As they are under their monthly limit of 1000 they pay no flex payment. The next invoice is for the standard $81.

In month 2 they use 1200 GB (out of the 1000 limit). As they are over their monthly limit of 1000, they pay their $81 monthly payment PLUS flex fee of $30 (200 X $0.15). Total for that month is $110.

New way - A Polaris customer pays $49/month, which includes 600 GB per month.

There are no more bandwidth add-on plans. Flex bandwidth is now $0.05 per GB.

In month 1 they use 800 GB. Their next bill is $49 plus flex fee of $10 (200 GB X $0.05). Total bill is $59 (instead of $81).

In month 2 they use 1200 GB. Their next bill is $49 plus flex fee of $30 (600 GB X $0.05). Total bill is $79 (instead of $110).

As you can see, our new billing means less charges and a much more simple solution.

Storage Changes

In a similar fashion, we removed and cancelled previously used monthly add-ons needed for more storage. Our previous add-ons started at 200 GB and then went to 1 TB, 5 TB, an up. Previously we billed at $0.05 per GB

Instead of all that, we will simply add 100 GB of storage automatically every time you need it for our new, lower price of $0.03 per GB.

Example with real numbers

Old way - A Polaris customer pays $49/month, which includes 600 GB per month.

They need 650 GB of total storage, so they add 200 GB of storage per month at $0.05/GB, bringing their total storage limit to 800 GB.

They are billed $59/month ($49 for the base plan and $10 for the add-on storage).

New way - A Polaris customer pays $49/month, which includes 600 GB per month.

There are no more storage add-on plans. Flex storage is now $0.03 per GB.

Once they go beyond their limit of 600 GB we automatically add another 100 GB to their plan and add $3 to their next invoice. Their new limit is 700 and their next bill is $49 plus flex fee of $3. Total of $52 instead of $59.

As with bandwidth, our new billing is less expensive and much more simple for our customers.

FAQ

I'm on Aurora and have a 200 GB add-on for bandwidth that was just charged for. Should I still have that added bandwidth available or am I reset back to what is availalbe in my base plan?

Yes, the add-on bandwidth that was just billed will still show in your account and be available. You will no longer be charged the monthly fee for that add-on. These changes discussed above will be effective starting next billing cycle.

I'm on Polaris and have a 400 GB add-on for storage that was just charged. Did I I also get charged with the new pricing?

No, you won't get doubled billed. That storage add-on subscription is cancelled and you will not be billed for it again. It will still show as available storage until the next billing cycle. When that next billing cycle starts you will begin on the new storage solution.

If you have any questions or see anything strange on your invoice please don't hesitate to contact the helpdesk.

I want to start a Nova subscription which includes 2 TB of bandwidth per month. But I know there will be months that I will go well over that. Are you saying there's nothing I need to do to make sure my videos will work after I use up 2 TB in a month?

That's right. Once you use the 2 TB your videos will continue to work and we'll simply bill you for what you use at $0.05 per GB.
